Julian Assange and Freedom of the Press

“But in this case, if that’s all it takes, then no journalist is safe. The freedom of the press is not safe. It’s over. And I think our republic is in its last days, because unauthorized disclosures of this kind are the lifeblood of a republic.”
– Daniel Ellsberg Regarding the charges against Julian Assange

That quote is from the interview that is in this video and in text at this first link below.

Daniel Ellsberg On Assange Arrest: The Beginning of the End For Press Freedom
“This is the first indictment of a journalist and editor or publisher…And if it’s successful it will not be the last.”

Skip down to the links if you want or read this bit I’m adding…

You can (and should) search out from multiple sources information on the treatment and arrest of Assange and what Wikileaks has done over the years, what they are about and how they (and Assange) function.
Choose as many sources as you like but I would suggest you not just look at mainstream corporate media.

I will not try to put tons of info on here that you can find on your own. I will start with some and add more but I ask that you do your own research on this and any other important topic.

Below will be some info and updates along with groups that work to protect press freedom, how you can be involved, ways to be as secure as possible with phones and internet, citizen journalism, what whistleblowing is, how to stay as safe as possible etc.

One main thing we must not overlook or dismiss is:

Assange’s arrest, the smearing of him, the lies and the rest

are about destroying the freedom of the press (WORLDWIDE)

and to help cover up crimes that Assange and Wikileaks expose.

THAT is what his arrest and the charges are about,

it has NOTHING to do with “national security” or anything else.

We MUST be informed and yet there are massive governmental and corporate pressures being put upon truth tellers, publishers and outlets.

Don’t fall into the trap of assuming Assange or Wikileaks is bad just because some politician or talking head says so. Use your mind, use critical thinking, research on your own. Without free speech and freedom of the press we have nothing. All else hinges on those things so get informed and vocal and stand for truth and our rights.

That link above with the transcription of the interview that is also on video sums up much of what is most pertinent but I am adding some more and as I said you need to read up and research on your own.
Newest additions to this post (though not necessarily chronological in their posting or reporting date) will be added at the bottom.
